Project Title
Window Washing Robot for Skyscrapers
Design Challenge
Through international collaboration between Rice University students and ENIS students, Team WashBOT built a window-washing robot to clean high rise buildings. This makes large-scale window washing safer and more efficient. Window washing is currently done by humans, and this makes the task very dangerous. This danger results in high insurance costs for window washing companies. Current robotic solutions are too expensive and do not work with recessed windows. Our team focused our efforts on improving these aspects of the design, creating a window washing robot for recessed windows that does not require people to be suspended from the side of a building and costs less than $1,200 to create and $110 per month to maintain. The robot addresses cleaning, and further work needs to address both large and small scale locomotion around a window and building.
