Design Challenge
In the developing world, healthcare workers must choose between delivering IV fluids at an uncontrolled rate or withholding fluids from patients, both of which can have catastrophic effects. Therefore, there is an immense need for a device that administers IV fluids at a controlled rate and volume, and also is low-cost, low power, and easy to use for healthcare workers in low resource settings. We will work with Rice 360 and global health specialists in the field to design and test a device that fits the aforementioned conditions for use in developing countries.
