Design Challenge
We are Team OutSTENTing, a group of interdisciplinary engineers, and we intend to redesign the pediatric stent removal process. The current method is a cystoscopy, which requires inserting a scope into the patients’ urethra in order to pull the stent out. This procedure takes 3 hours , costs upwards of $3000, and is so painful that children must be put under general anesthesia before the surgeon can begin. By redesigning the procedure, we intend to make a significant impact on the field of pediatric urology and urology as a whole.
