Express Yourself seeks to develop Express Pump: a low-cost, high-fidelity, easily-operated mechanical breast pump for use in hospitals in the developing world, where breast pumps or viable alternatives are otherwise unavailable.

Breastfeeding is a vital part of infant development: it increases the bond between mother and child, allows the infant to receive vital maternal antibodies, and has been linked to various lifelong health. Although manual and electric pumps are widespread in the developed world, hospitals in low-resource settings cannot afford to purchase from existing companies. Additionally, the infrastructure in Blantyre and surrounding areas prevents shipping of pumps and replacement parts from manufacturers in other regions.

Our clients at Queen Elizabeth's Central Hospital seek a long-term solution that will be the only breast pump available to all mothers in their neonatal ward. Express Yourself’s design uses a foot-powered pump to optimize comfort and efficiency.
