Due to the lack of gravity present in space, astronauts experience less loading on their bones. This lack of loading causes the bones to lose density and to become more brittle, making them prone to fracture upon reentry. This team has developed a system to monitor bone density loss by measuring the levels of calcium in urine which will work with the toilets currently designed to work in microgravity.  »
