FabShops - Intro to Electronic Prototyping (Arduino IDE)

Description: 

Learn how to work with an Arduino, a popular open-source electronics prototyping framework! This introductory workshop will teach you the basics of programming an Arduino and how to apply that to your projects. We'll go over some basic programming tools and commands needed to work with Arduino, how to build circuits on a breadboard, and overview available Arduinos. After attending this FabShop, attendees can schedule private lessons with lab assistants to further develop their skills by building their own project in-person!

Preparation and Resources:

No previous experience necessary!

Due to COVID-19 distancing guidelines and procedures, FabShops will occur via Zoom. At the time of the event, a Zoom link will be sent to you via the email you registered with.

Students should prepare their own laptop with the following installed on it:

1. Download and install the free Arduino software on your computer: https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software

2. If you have a PC, download the FTDI drivers: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/how-to-install-ftdi-drivers/windows---quick-and-easy

3. Download the SIK Guide code and store it somewhere easily accessible on your computer: sparkfun.com/sikcode

For those who are registered, please contact oedk@rice.edu ASAP if you are unable to attend! These events can be very popular. If you cannot attend, a space may be freed up for another attendee.

The OEDK will charge a No-Show Fee of $20.00 per each missed FabShops to student accounts. A No-Show fee will be charged if:

o Registered student does not show up

o If unable to attend and student does not cancel 24 hours prior to the start time of each FabShop or if it is a weekend or Monday morning FabShop, by Friday at 8:00 AM CT.
