OEDK Status Updates and Project Instructions
With a heavy heart, the following decisions have been made concerning the OEDK:
Due to the state of things at the university and in our communities, the OEDK will be closed to student activity starting March 16th. Students will ONLY be allowed into the OEDK to pack up their projects. Absolutely no work should be done in the OEDK. Student card-swipe access to the facility will be turned off on March 26th. Access for faculty and staff will remain active for those who already have access. Teams who have projects in the OEDK have been asked to box up and/or contain their projects before leaving campus. If you have questions about this, please email the OEDK at email@example.com.
Engineering Design Showcase
Unfortunately, we will be canceling the 2020 Engineering Design Showcase. Though we had initially thought we would do a virtual showcase using videos, we feel that students would not be able showcase their best work. In addition, we felt the students had enough on their plate with all of the transitions and changes happening. We are very sad about this, but feel like it was the right decision.
Remote Access to Software
Information for remotely logging onto the physical computers in the OEDK can be found in this KB document on “Remote and Virtual Desktops Access to Labs." You may need to log in with your NetID username and password to view this page.
If you do want to use this resource, please test this out and make sure you can log into the PCs well before you need it so that you have time to troubleshoot, if needed:
NOTE: Many of the software applications are now available for you to install on your personal computer. Please see the KB on "Software Available for Students." This KB page will be continuously updated as new software becomes available. You may prefer downloading the software on your own computer over using this remote computer access.
Due to the current state of the university and in the interest of keeping the integrity of your design projects intact and protected, we strongly encourage all teams to box up and/or contain their project before leaving campus. We understand that this may not be a possibility for every team, but if you are able to, please do. If you are unable to do so, please let us know via email, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Below are some guidelines and expectations. Please note: If the expectations for handling your project are different from your faculty, please let us know.
For any team that is not able to come back to the OEDK to gather their items up, please let us know! We will work with you and your faculty member to determine the best course of action for your project.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and quick action on this matter.
The OEDK is very sad that this is happening. Please let us know if we can help in any way.
Thank you for your understanding. More information can be found at https://emergency.rice.edu/coronavirus and https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html.
