Substitution Senior Design Project
Design Challenge
Hearing aids provide hearing impaired people a way to improve their quality of life in a non-invasive manner. However, no similar solution exists for people who are fully deaf. Current solutions for the profoundly deaf are both expensive and invasive.
Design Summary
Our team will design a low-cost, noninvasive device to substitute auditory input with haptic feedback, circumventing the loss of hearing. This device will use piezo-electric actuators to stimulate the user’s torso in response to sound, which over time will allow the perception of auditory information.
