The OEDK will charge a No-Show Fee of $20.00 per each missed FabShop to student accounts. A No-Show fee will be charged:
o If Registered student does not show up
o If unable to attend and student does not cancel 24 hours prior to the start time of each FabShop or if it is a weekend or Monday morning FabShop, by Friday at 8:00 AM CT.
Cancellations must be made via email to oedk@rice.edu.

FabShops - Sewing
Introduction to sewing machines, because sewing by hand just takes too long. Learn skills such as threading the machine, starting and stopping a stitch, and turning corners . Optional skills such as sewing on a button and handling iron-ons will also be available. This workshop is meant to teach students the basics of sewing machines and provide a hands-on session where they can make their sewn project to take home.
Preparation and Resources:
No prior experience is necessary. All skill levels welcomed.

FabShops - Advanced Laser Cutting
Description: Expand upon your laser cutting knowledge by moving beyond the basic cutting and rastering showcased in the Intro Laser Cutting FabShop. Topics may include, but are not limited to: advanced photo rastering, 3D rastering, rastering different materials, post processing techniques, and complicated laser cutting geometry. Participants are welcome to bring questions on other topics and techniques as well!
*Join the Adobe Illustrator FabShop to learn how to create your own vector files that you can laser cut in this workshop!
Preparation and Resources: This FabShop assumes prior experience with the laser cutter. Participants are expected to have either attended the Intro Laser Cutting FabShop or have prior experience with laser cutting.

FabShops - Intro Laser Cutting
Description: Learn the basics of laser cutting - a versatile advanced manufacturing technique used in both prototyping and final development phases - and then put that knowledge to work! The workshop will include a showcase of finished laser-cut projects and a demonstration of how to operate the OEDK’s Epilog laser cutter. During the hands-on portion of the workshop, students will create and laser cut their own designs to take home

Unless alternate request is made, ALL TEAMS will be provided with a 45" x 45" section to hang a poster ONLY. Options for table space, floor space and power outlets are available IF REQUESTED. It is VERY important to let us know if you will need a computer and access to certain software, such as LabView!

This showcase and competition highlights many of the school’s engineering design projects and represent our students’ success. The competition is open to all engineering design projects from each discipline of engineering. The evening will host 80+ judges made up of engineering alumni and local industry to help with the poster session competition. The event will be from 4:30-7:00pm. Awards will be announced around 6:30pm.
The 2023 Engineering Design Showcase will be held at The Ion, the innovation and startup hub, located midway between downtown Houston and Rice University.

Study Days (NO EXAMS) - April 22 - 25, 2023
Work Table CLEAN-UP AND CHECK-OUT
All teams and clubs are required to clean up their work space and check out at the end of the spring.
See clean-up instructions HERE. After a team/club feels like their table is clean and all their tools, supplies etc. have been put away, they must submit a Team Work Table Checkout Form to have an OEDK technician inspect the table and sign-off that the team has met the cleaning criteria.
