Design Challenge
Teddy is a three-year-old boy, with a rare GRIN1 mutation that causes delayed mobility. Due to self-stimulating behaviors, such as clapping. sucking fingers etc, he has a hard time maintaining the proper bilateral posture required for walking while using his gait trainer. Our objective is to develop a pressure-sensing, wireless gait trainer handle attachment for Teddy that can be controlled by a therapist and/or parent from afar. When Teddy applies a sufficient amount of pressure on the handlebars, music should play. The definition of sufficient pressure, as well as the preferred music, can be adjusted by the therapist/parent. This is intended to encourage him to keep his grasp on the handlebars.
