Project Title
Allocating Health Resources in Malawi
Design Challenge
In this project, we will develop an inventory control program to stock the lab-in-a-backpack systems developed by Rice 360° and Beyond Traditional Borders. We will also propose a plan for the optimal allocation of community health workers, known as health surveillance assistants (HSAs) and backpacks. This project is important because of the health challenges Malawi faces, such as an under-five mortality rate of 134/1000, and timely because of the government’s current plan to scale up the number of HSAs and Rice 360°’s plan to scale up the backpack program.
